“O’Zapft Is,” old Bavarian for “it is tapped,” is the beginning ceremony in every tent in Munich, where the tent host hammers a tap into the first gravity keg of Festbier and announces the beginning of Oktoberfest. At Golden Age, we aim to bring you as close to the Munich experience as possible during Oktoberfest, and as such we’re excited to host our very own O’Zapft Is this Friday when we begin Oktiberfest!

However, when we open at 4 pm on Friday, you’ll see that only three of our four Oktoberfest beers — Festbier, Oktoberfest Märzen, and Festweizen — will be on tap, BECAUSE we are holding back our baby, Rauchbier Märzen until 5 p.m. when we will hold our very own O’Zapft Is ceremony, and tap a 30L gravity keg of it on our outdoor stage.

Between 4 and 5 pm, our very own DJ Lederhosen will be on the stage spinning up Oktoberfest hits both new and old to build the excitement of this moment, a full six months of patient lagering in the making.

Here’s where we need your help! Our goal is nothing short of creating a true Munich O’Zapft Is experience, which means two things. First, we’ll only be serving full liters steins (Maß) from this keg. And second, we’ll need enough of you lined up and ready to drink a Maß that we never have to shut off our tap once we open it, true O’Zapft Is style. And as such, we are excited to tap this baby during our cleverly-named “Live Maß” happy hour, which means you’ll pay just $8 for a full liter pour of this beautiful lager.
